First double page spread

This Kerrang double page spread is featuring Fall Out Boy. The layout is simple so that the writing is basically taking over the left hand side of the piece and the photo is used as a background and fully seen on the right hand side. This picture is taken in a black and white setting as this style is very indie and typical of a rock magazine. Another statement colour to go with the black and white theme is red, this shows anger, love and a sense of sexiness. A pug has been used to show a competition, red has been used on the black and white photo to draw readers attention to the pug by contrasting the colours, also this colour has been chosen to give the feeling of love, to win the competition playing on the readers feelings. White writing is used on this pug to standout. The pug has been specifically placed here to make sure the reader sees it when they turn the page, and no standard human being would read a magazine backwards, really. The main headline is big, dynamic and powerful. it is used in quotations to show that it is a quote from the band, this will draw readers attention to the bold statement and make them want to read more about it. The first word of the quote, 'ANYTHING' has a block colour of white with what it looks like red spray paint or blood across the dominating half of the word, this is to show the power and. Different sizes of font have been used in the headline to have more effect on the reader. The sub heading is in a much lower sized font, this is to give an insight to the interview. The first word-'EXCLUSIVE' has been written in red to grab the readers attention, this tells them that here they have an exclusive story that no other magazine have and would make the reader want to read that magazine. The photo has been taken from a low angle to look up to the band whilst doing 'their thing' this makes them look iconic and higher than the readers interested in them. It shows their popularity and fame.

Analysis of 3rd front cover!

The strap across the top is informing the readers that Q is the 'UK's biggest music magazine' it is in white writing on a black blackground to stand out so that it catches the readers eye, this would want to make the reader feel special because they are reading the biggest music magazine in the country. The word 'biggest' is in italic so that it emphasises the fact that it is actually the biggest music magazine in the UK.

Simple font has been used on this front cover to draw the attention towards the photo. The writing is simply trying to get the readers to see what is inside whereas the main focus is the photo. The colour scheme of this front page is Q's standard colours-red, black and white. Black and white contrast and set eachother for being seen and with splashes of red gives the cover some excitement and focus, red represents love, anger, hate and passion and ironically we see all of these in just this photo. A black outfit has been warn to draw attention to him and make him stand out. This works well as the writing flows over the image. The right side of his face has shadow over it, this makes him look gloomy and scary, his overall appearance is quite dark and angry, and this is supported by the action of the photo, he is holding a guitair and stereotypically, as many rock and roll stars do-smash this with it. The shattered effect of the Q is amazing, it makes it look like real glass. This is a clever photo, its dont to draw people in and think 'wow'. On the bottom right hand corner there is a statistic about The Beatles stating '200 things you didnt know', this would draw in any Beatles fans to check it out. The writing has been contrasted, wth the number in 200 which grabs readers attention because everybody believes statistics, and then the rest in grey with The Beatles in white, using the white highlights who it is. The photo used has been given a white border, this highlights the photo as it is quite dark, this makes it stand out. The barcode is simply in the corner hidden out of the way so that it doesnt interfere with any of the info on whats inside, this is because is a useless piece of info really.

Analysis of 2nd front cover!

The wording on this magazine is very simple, the main word is ROCKS as it is in big red font witch takes up the whole bottom line of the page so this catches the readers eye and especially because it is in red it draws them in. The colour gives the feel of the magazine and links with its genre, it gives us an insight also into what is in the magazine. The strap across the is in different font so that it stands out, it is on a plain black background with white writing also so that it stands out. It is mearly advertising the magazine.

The layout of this front cover is very simple and straight forward, this is because the main focus is the photo. Other features on the page are highlighted by using white and red block colours , to contrast from the black and grey photo.
The genre of this magazine is obvious due to the colours used; red, black and white. Red represents love and passion, which amounts to this seductive cover. Black fits in well for this genre, it is usually associated with gothic and indie themes. In complete opposition to black, the white is its contrasting colour which makes it stand out well. The reason these colours have been used together is so the overall feeling is dark and gloomy, with highlights of red and white. The mood of this colour is sexy and edgy. This would obviously attract the core audience of men.
The main photo and only photo used would also attract and draw in males, this sexy photo of singer Cheryl is very edgy and risky. The red lips represent love ans passion which also work with the colour scheme of the magazine which is red and black. The use of her tongue shown in this photo plays on a very attractive and sexy vibe. Plain, and obviously, wet hair works well as the makeup is quite heavy. This is done so the balance is kept and men focus on the oral area, making them want to see more photos like this and would obvsiouly be drawn in to read more.
